Creating a hidden page in the Site Manager provides a safe place to do development work that is not visible to visitors. This allows you to build and test content without affecting your live website.
Creating a Development Area
You can use a hidden page as a sandbox for development:
- Create a new page under Media → Pages
- Hide the page from all menus so it does not appear in navigation
- Set the page to Draft using Publishing settings
This page can also include subpages, allowing you to create a full multi-page development area that remains hidden from visitors.
Using Subpages for Testing
- Create subpages beneath your hidden parent page
- Organize content just as you would on your live site
- Test layouts, navigation, and content structure safely
Optional Password Protection
If you need additional protection, you can enable page protection:
- Open Page Properties → Security
- Enable Use Page Protection
- Select a protection method (password, passcode, or user accounts)
You can also apply protection to all subpages beneath the parent page.
Important Note
When you are logged into the Site Manager, you will not be prompted to enter credentials for protected pages. This is because you are already authenticated as an administrator.
Best Practices
- Use Draft status to keep development pages hidden from visitors
- Hide development pages from menus to prevent accidental access
- Use subpages to organize larger development projects
- Enable password protection if sharing preview links with others
